Some transitions come with champagne toasts and grand announcements. Others happen more quietly—with packed boxes, deep breaths, and a heart full of mixed emotions. For Shades In Place, this journey represents both an evolution and a continuation of our commitment to exceptional window treatment services. Last month, we officially closed the physical shop of Shades In Place in Boston. After nearly two decades of growing roots there, this was a big step. But here’s what I want everyone to know:
I may have moved to Florida, but Boston never moved out of me.
That city gave me everything—my first chance, my first clients, my first feeling of “maybe I can really do this.” It was the foundation of a business built on trust, relationships, and a lot of hard work.
And while the address may have changed, my commitment hasn’t.
Boston is still in good hands. Brian is staying put, leading our commercial installations. And Chris is now overseeing new business ventures under the Shades In Place name.
For all our loyal clients and partners up north, you’re still part of this journey. That loyalty goes both ways.
Meanwhile, down here in Florida, a new chapter is opening. One filled with new opportunities I never quite expected.
Florida is a different world. More land, more sunshine, and a lifestyle that leans heavily on outdoor living. That means new needs: screens, awnings, hurricane shutters—services that go beyond what we typically did in Boston. So I’m diving in. This week, I begin the process of earning my Florida license. Because I believe in doing things right from the start.

And I have to give credit where it’s due. It was actually Kevin, one of our installers, who first mentioned Florida over two years ago. Just a simple conversation: “I’ve been thinking about moving down there.” That one line planted the seed. And now, in what feels like a full-circle moment, Kevin officially arrived in Tampa at the end of April. He’s part of the team helping build this next chapter. And I couldn’t be more grateful.
This move also gave me something I hadn’t had in a long time: space. Mental space. Emotional space. And most importantly, creative space. With that, two long-time personal projects came back to life.
First: I finally started writing the book I’ve been carrying in my heart for years. It’s called Courage Attracts Luck—a collection of stories from my journey. From Brazil to Boston, from late-night truck shifts to running my own company. It’s raw. It’s real. And it’s finally happening.
Second: I brought back the podcast. But this time, it’s under a new name:
️ No Strings Attached – This weekly show is a space where I blend everything I’ve been building:
- Blind Audacity (real-life reflections like this)
- We Dress Naked Windows (shade education & design advice)
- Trading Secrets (tips for pros in the industry)
- Courage Attracts Luck (stories from the book in progress)
I hope my message was loud and clear: no matter which zip code you’re calling or emailing from, I’ve got you covered. And yes—pun absolutely intended.
Thank you for your trust and loyalty in the past—and for the opportunity to serve you again in the future.
Yours,
Roger – Professional Window Dresser and Retired Snow Shoveler
